GEOGRAPHY AND TOPOGRAPHY OF IYE EKITI
Iye Ekiti, the headquarter of Ilejemeje local government, Ekiti State, with a population of about 17,000, is bounded in the north by Obbo Ayegunle in Kwara State, in the West by Ikun Ekiti in Moba local government of Ekiti State, in the East by Iludun Ekiti and Ido Ekiti and in the South by Usi Ekiti.
Iye Ekiti lies on latitude 0o and longitude 16o. Iye is situated in the North West of Ekiti State. Our town is affectedby the North East trade wind, which brings harmattan around December to March and the Southwest trade winds which brings rain. The topography of Iye Ekiti is a fairly uniform level ground except for few hilly areas, (e.g. Oke Arunbe, Oke Opa). The town is blessed with highly fertile soil that contains a variety of soil textures, such as loamy, sandy and clay. The occupation of Iye Ekiti people is purely agrarian. A handful, especially women are involved in advanced commerce. |
